Matt Faria, PhD is the CEO and a founder of Pneumatica Bio. Matt is a computer scientist, software engineer, and quantitative biologist driven by a fundamental challenge in drug development: the costly, time-intensive, and often unpredictable nature of clinical trials. Too many promising therapies fail to translate, wasting years of effort and billions of dollars while patients wait for treatments that could change their lives.

Matt has excelled both as an software engineer and as an academic. His role as an engineer for companies including Nvidia and Cimpress took him around the world, from Silicon Valley and Boston to Barcelona. Matt founded and led the Quantitative Biology Group at The University of Melbourne, the first multidisciplinary group to pursue quantitative analysis at the intersection of nanotechnology and biology.

Matt’s research has pioneered techniques for quantitative analysis of nanotherapies, revealing how engineered therapeutics behave across biological systems. He is a committed teacher and mentor, and has trained the next generation of bio-engineers to integrate computational thinking and biological inquiry via courses in programming, data analytics, and systems biology. Matt is deeply committed to mentoring researchers to develop their talent, fostering environments where the technical, intellectual, and philosophical skills of scientists flourish.
